ON THE CORNER TRACK SHEETS

On The Corner track sheet 1
Track sheet for the first On The Corner studio session on June 1, 1972.

On this day the almost 20 minute long opening track of the album was recorded.
The track sheet details take 1 and take 2 of a 16-track recording, with the names of Jack (DeJohnette), Chick (Corea), and Herb(ie Hancock) marked. Obviously 'L', 'C,' and 'R' mean left, center, and right, while OD stands for overdub. Note also the bass overdub dated June 2, marked in different hand writing.

On The Corner track sheet 2

Track sheet for an overdub session on July 7, 1972

The whistling and hand claps mentioned here appear on 'Black Satin,' so this is most likely the overdub session for said track. The personnel on 'Black Satin' is always given as being slightly different than that on the album's opening track, so the stereo master that was pasted in here, on tracks 4 and 5, and overdubbed to, is unlikely to be a mix of the June 1 session. Another recording session for On The Corner took place on June 6, so the stereo master pasted onto tracks 4 and 5 was most likely recorded on that day. The engineer, Stan Tonkel or Russ Payne, appears to have expected a second attempt at overdubbing to a stereo mix, because it is marked below the initial session, again on tracks 4 and 5, but no more overdubs were done, and these markings were crossed out.
